VOLCANOES, EARTHQUAKES, PLATE TECTONICS

Earth Observatory Experiments ('E' 'M' 'H')
NASA's interactive experiments that can be used to teach all ages about the art and science of space-based Remote Sensing. The experiments focus on how NASA uses Remote Sensing to study how and why Earth changes. It covers such topics as earthquakes, weather, biomes, patterns of change, ICE(Image Composite Editor), and much more.

Earthquakes ('M' 'H')
Plenty of information here on various quakes, engineering buildings to withstand quakes (simulation to try), and lots more. By the Discovery Channel.

Earthquakes in Canada ('M' 'H')
Learn about big earthquakes of the past, check current seismic activity, and get pointers on how to survive a big quake from this comprehensive Geological Survey of Canada Web site.

Life Along the Faultline ('E' 'M')
Excellent approach to earthquakes, mixing people experiences with science. Includes a number of hands-on activities to illustrate concepts. Check out the activities. By the Exploratorium.

National Earthquake Information Center ('M' 'H')
From the U.S. Geological Survey, this site provides up to the minute information about where earthquakes are taking place, feature articles on the nature of earthquakes and the challenges of earthquake prediction, and tips on preparing for earthquakes. There is special section for teachers.

Plate Tectonics: This Dynamic Earth ('H')
The U.S. Geological Survey prepared these pages describing the history behind the theory of plate tectonics, the evidence for it, and the ways in which plate tectonics effect the surface of the world today.

Volcanoes Online ('H')
Site designed by high school students as a part of the Thinkquest Web design competition. In addition to providing lots of information on volcanoes, it also boasts crossword puzzles and multiple choice quizzes on volcanism. A database compiling various characteristics of individual volcanoes is also included. Play the online game "Save the VIllage."
