HOW THIS SITE BEGAN
How This Site Began During my Winter break from school (Georgia Institute of Technology in 1994), I spent some time exploring the Internet (about a gazillion hours!). I began to think of the Internet as a vast electronic library whose materials were scattered about in cryptic places. In this unchartered and uncatalogued space, total democracy existed. Anyone could author materials as well as decide which materials would be made available to others.
I found what one might expect under these circumstances, that the Internet contained a range of materials from useless junk (at least to me) to incredibly rich and fascinating source materials. The Internet held the possibility for wasting my time as well as the potential for enriching my life.
I then put on my teacher's 'hat' from my prior years as a public school teacher. I was curious to see what resulted from trying to use the Internet as an educational tool . What I discovered was informative for the eventual design of the Busy Teachers' Web site.
