Mission and Goals

Mission

Georgia Tech's Center for Education In Science Mathematics and Computing is dedicated to the enhancement of science, mathematics and technology education. Its mission, K-12, is to advocate and participate in efforts to effect systemic changes that lead to improved appreciation and performance in science, mathematics and technology for all students.

Capitalizing on the unique strengths of a technological university,
CEISMC's goals are to serve as a leading partner:

  1. To advocate policies, to identify the barriers in infrastructures and human and financial resources, to implement strategies and to align resources that promote quality teaching and learning in science, technology and mathematics
  2. To create and maintain partnerships that maximize the strengths, diversity and resources of the community to facilitate a supportive environment for science, technology and mathematics
To create a coordinated set of programs in mathematics, technology, and science education that:
  • Develop pre and inservice teachers' content, application and teaching skills
  • Promote student motivation, learning, academic success and achievement
  • Influence policymakers and parents to support all components of systemic reform
Programs will meet the following criteria:
  • Ensure quality, effectiveness and transportability
  • Actively encourage success for underrepresented and underserved populations
  • Comprise articulated, cohesive and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies
  • Reflect and promote national standards for science and mathematics education
  • Utilize benchmarks and timetables for assessment and evaluation to determine student outcomes
