Mentoring for Success (since replaced by Pathways into STEM) Mentoring for Success (MFS) is a 3-year pilot program in science, mathematics, and technology designed for approximately 150 middle and high school students from underrepresented groups in the City Schools of Decatur. Students are nurtured in science and mathematics to encourage them to take higher level high school courses in these subjects. Georgia Tech mentors provide tutorial/academic support for students, assist the classroom teachers with labs and demonstrations, interact with participating students in off-site recreational/leisure activities, and establish and maintain electronic communications with the participating students and teachers. Ossabaw
E-Exploration for Students and Teachers
Through this grant, students and teachers from middle and high schools of the Savannah Chatham County Public School System will have the opportunity to explore Ossabaw Island, one of Georgia's remote barrier islands, using state-of-the-art computer technology. Through a combination of three-day on-island camps, Summer Institute sessions, and follow-up campus-based workshops, participants will study, document and share data collected on the island. Pathways into STEM The Pathways into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Program is a partnership between CEISMC and the Atlanta Public School System that is funded by a grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.  Mentors and tutors work with the "New Schools" at Carver, South Atlanta, and Therrell High Schools.  The program has three objectives: 1) increased high school graduation, 2) increased number of students enrolling in post-secondary training, and 3) increased numbers of students pursuing post-secondary careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  The objectives of the program are carried out through mentoring and tutoring during the school day and in weekly after-school sessions. Mentors work with students to develop math and science skills and provide exposure and information about their post-secondary options.
