Egg Drop ('E' 'M' 'H')
You wouldn't want to make a career of egg
drops, but this site shows you what kind of
fun, skill, and learning is involved in this
statewide activity sponsored by the Eastern
NC Society of Mechanical Engineers. Anyone
with an imagination can enter! See if there
is a local egg drop near you!
Engineer Girl Contest ('E' 'M' 'H')
Checkout this site for their annual contest.
One of the few open to the lower grades.
The FIRST LEGO League ('E' 'M')
"The FIRST LEGO League (FLL),
considered the "little league" of the
FIRST Robotics Competition, is the
result of a partnership between FIRST
and the LEGO Group. FLL extends the
FIRST
concept of inspiring and celebrating science
and technology to children aged 9 through
14, using real-world context and hands-on
experimentation."
FIRST Robotics Competition ('H')
"The FIRST Robotics Competition is
an exciting, multinational competition that
teams professionals and young people to
solve an engineering design problem in an
intense and competitive way."
FIRST Vex™ Challenge ('H')
"The FIRST Vex™ Challenge (FVC) is
a pilot, mid-level robotics competition for
high-school students. It offers the
traditional challenge of a FIRST
competition but with a more accessible and
affordable robotics kit. ...The ultimate
goal of FVC is to reach more young people
with a lower-cost, more accessible
opportunity to discover the excitement and
rewards of science, technology, and
engineering."
High School Math Competition
The Georgia Tech High School Mathematics
Competition (GT-HSMC) is open to all high school
students. The competition consists of a one-hour,
multiple-choice test that is used to choose
semi-finalists and finalists who will later take a
written examination that emphasizes the logical
steps of proof-based solutions as well as problem
solving. Contact Merideth Durrah at CEISMC 404.894.9143 or

Intel International Science and Engineering
Fair ('H')
"The Intel International Science and
Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the world's
largest pre-college celebration of science."
MATH
COUNTS ('M')
"MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment,
coaching and competition program that
promotes middle school mathematics
achievement through grassroots involvement
in every U.S. state and territory."
National Engineers' Week: Future Cities
Competition ('M')
"The mission of the National Engineers
Week Future City Competition is to provide a
fun and exciting educational engineering
program for seventh- and eighth-grade
students that combines a stimulating
engineering challenge with a "hands-on"
application to present their vision of a
city of the future."
Siemens Westinghouse Competition
The Siemens
Westinghouse Competition recognizes
remarkable talent by promoting individual growth for
high school students who are willing to challenge
themselves through science research. Students have
an opportunity to achieve national recognition for
science research projects that they complete in high
school. The program is funded by the Siemens
Foundation and administered by The College Board. Contact Merideth Durrah at
CEISMC 404.894.9143 or
merideth.durrah@ceismc.gatech.edu.
TEAMS Competition - National Engineering
Design Challenge ('H')
"Participating in the JWOD/JETS National
Engineering Design Challenge is a
cross-curricular activity — that involves
problem solving skills, math, science,
research, writing, presentation skills, and
drafting/design skills...and fun and
prizes!!" The Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) sponsors the annual Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS). TEAMS is a unique and challenging academic program and competition that introduces high school students to various engineering disciplines and illustrates how the math and science they are learning is applied in the real world. Contact Merideth Durrah at CEISMC 404.894.9143 or
merideth.durrah@ceismc.gatech.edu.
VINNY ('E' 'M' 'H')
"Combine skills in research and writing with
teamwork and creativity to win prizes and
recognition. Named after Leonardo da Vinci,
The
VinnyTM Awards is a contest
to produce a one minute video that explains
how Science, Technology, Engineering and/or
Mathematics (STEM) is being used or can be
used to help solve a global problem."
Sponsored by the NASA Langley Center for
Distance Learning, Christopher Newport
University, and the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Funding is
provided in part by the IEEE Foundation.
