For Facilitators
Facilitators Helping Fellow Teachers
A facilitator's main objective is to help
teachers translate their summer experiences to the
classroom. This is accomplished by providing
teachers with information about inquiry methods, national and
state standards as well as guiding them through the
development of their Action Plans.
Facilitators...
- ...discuss with the teacher his or her job or research experience, and how it applies to the discipline being taught by the teacher.
- ...provide structure, guidance and feedback for developing the required Action Plan.
- ...serve as liaisons between teachers (fellows) and GIFT. By contacting teachers throughout the summer in small group meeting settings, via e-mail, phone calls, and on site visits, the Facilitator also serves as a resource should concerns arise.
- ...serve as liaisons between mentors and GIFT. After initially contacting mentors within 2 weeks of the start of summer placements, Facilitators and mentors develop procedures for assuring that mentors are able to share views and ideas for the GIFT program.
- ...serve as liaisons between fellows, districts and GIFT. During the placements, Facilitators serve as a contact/resource with school system personnel, prepare periodic reports to districts, and perform follow up activities after the end of intern-fellowships, and site visits.
