Facilitators     

GIFT Facilitator Responsibilities

  • Helping Teachers Translate Experience to Classroom – the main objective for facilitators is to help teachers translate their summer experience to their classroom.  This is accomplished by providing information about Inquiry Methods, National Standards as well as guiding them through the development of an Action Plan.  This is accomplished by:

Discussing their job experience and applications of math, science and technology

Providing structure for the development of the Action Plan which includes information guiding the development, reading and providing feedback for completed components of their Action Plans. 

  • Serving as liaison between teachers with CEISMC – be in contact with teachers throughout the summer in small group meetings, via e-mail, phone calls, providing information about field trips, Action Plan, serving as a resource should concerns arise.
     
  • Serving as liaison between mentors with CEISMC – make initial contact with mentors within the first 2 weeks of summer, obtain contact information, send an e-mail or make contact during the summer, schedule site visit, determine mentor’s views/ideas for the GIFT program, make sure there are no concerns.
     
  • Serving as a liaison between fellows, districts and CEISMC – school year follow up; work with school system agendas; serve as a contact/resource with school system personnel, prepare periodic reports to district, coordinate with districts regarding banquet invitations.
     
  • Documenting Teacher Experience – keep a record of the teacher’s summer experience, document information regarding the nature of their work experience and their progression towards the development of an Action Plan
     
  • Planning & Leading small group meetings – Facilitators are responsible for planning the Kick-Off, Midsummer, End of Summer Meeting and preparing a presentation for the GIFT Banquet
     
  • Staffing the GIFT office – one day per week to answer calls; make copies, plan workshops, addressing banquet invitations, completing reports of small group meetings and site visits
