The Atlanta Public School System's High School
Transformation Initiative will create
smaller, 21st
century learning centers where students receive a
world-class education and graduate with more
effective options for lifelong success – whether
they choose to attend college or enter the work
force. Research shows that high school students
learn better in smaller, more personalized settings,
so APS schools that once bustled with 2,500 students
will become learning environments focused on the
success of 400 students.
The CEISMC Mentoring Program's work to assist
Atlanta Public Schools began with the first
"transformed" school, The New Schools at Carver when
the school opened on
August 15, 2005. In August of 2008, we
expanded our work to South Atlanta and Therrell High
Schools. At each of the schools we focus on
the small schools that emphasize the STEM
disciplines (science, technology, engineering and
mathematics).
