I. Student Expectations and Consequences

Return to Top of Page

Georgia Tech has high expectations for all students. The following expectations are designed to promote the well being of each student and to insure that each child is able to reach his/her fullest potential. Our programs are designed as academic enrichment programs – this is not day camp/daycare. Students should come to campus prepared for a fun, engaging, and enriching academic experience. Each student will be expected to do the following:

1.      Respect the property and feelings of fellow summer program students, teachers and student assistants as well as all others not directly associated with summer programs (bus drivers, dining hall staff, etc.).

2.      Always act in a manner that will promote a classmate’s opportunity to learn and safety.

3.      Have a positive attitude about learning and involvement during the summer program.

4.      Politely communicate any concerns directly to summer program instructors or CEISMC Assistants.

5.      No “horseplay” or inappropriate behavior of any kind will be tolerated. Students are representatives of Georgia Tech during their involvement with the summer programs, and they should act accordingly.

6.      No drugs or tobacco are permitted on the Georgia Tech campus by summer program participants.  If your child requires prescribed medications, please include a note that indicates the name of medication, time the dosage is administered, and the medication must be in the correct prescription container.

7.      No weapons of any kind are permitted on the Georgia Tech campus. This includes guns, knives, switchblades, pocketknives, and any other instruments that could be used as weapons. Any student who brings a weapon to a summer program will be handed over to the campus police and immediately dismissed from the program.

The Directors of CEISMC Student Programs reserve the right to dismiss any student who violates these rules at any time. Pro-rated programs fees will be refunded in the event of a dismissal.

A. Student Drop-Off Information
The directions and map provided later in these packet details where you will drop-off and pick-up your student each day. Morning drop-off will run from 8:20 - 9:00 AM. Students will remain at the drop-off location with their assigned CEISMC Assistant (CA) until 9:00.  At 9:00, the CA will lead students into the classroom.  If you arrive after or near 9:00 and the CA is not at the drop-off location, please wait for them to return.  DO NOT LEAVE YOUR STUDENT AT THE DROP-OFF LOCATION UNATTENDED. While Georgia Tech makes great effort to create a secure environment, this is an open campus. The classroom is near the drop-off location, and the CA will return within 5 minutes. The CA will remain at the drop-off location until 9:15.

B. Student Pick-Up Information
As stated on our website and in the program application, CEISMC Summer Programs run from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.  We allow 15 minutes for students to gather themselves and for our CA to escort students to the pick-up location (same as the drop-off). Pick-up will run from 3:15 - 3:45 PM, sharp. Pick-up running past 3:45 puts a significant strain on our resources and schedule, and it puts the CA and student at physical risk considering the 90-degree-plus temperatures of late afternoon during Atlanta summers.

CEISMC Summer Programs is an academic enrichment experience - it is not a childcare operation. If you agree to attend our program, then you'll need to abide by its hours of operation. As such, CEISMC has instituted a late-fee policy for pick-up. Parents will be charged $50 for each 15-minute interval past 3:45 PM. So, we will asses a $50 late-fee for parents arriving anytime between 3:45 and 4:00, $100 late-fee for parents arriving anytime between 4:00 and 4:15, $150 late-fee for parents arriving anytime between 4:15 and 4:30, and so on. The parent must pay these fees no later than drop-off the following morning.  If fees are not paid, the student will not be allowed to continue to participate in the program until the late-fee is paid.

We realize that Atlanta traffic is not always easy or predictable, so we ask that you make the necessary plans and arrangements to insure pick-up between 3:15 - 3:45.

C. Student Drivers
If your student is driving himself or herself to campus, please visit http://www.ceismc.gatech.edu/summercamps/selfpark.htm for instructions.  Parking is not free, and you will be required to pay for daily parking ($5.00 in most lots). Once your student has parked, they are responsible for getting themselves to the appropriate drop-off/pick-up location using the maps provided later in this document.  Once there, students must sign in and out each day.

The 14th Street Bridge Project will be active during the summer of 2008.  The southbound I-75/I-85 exit for 14th and 10th Streets is closed, and construction in this area may cause traffic delays. Please plan your schedule and route accordingly.  We advise southbound travelers to exit at North Avenue (Exit 249D), and we advise northbound travelers to exit at Spring St / West Peachtree (also Exit 249D).

Specific directions to the Drop-off/Pick-up location for each program will be included in a separate email to program participants.
