About

Sirocus Barnes, Ed.D. joined Georgia Tech’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) in March 2012 as the Outreach Coordinator for the AmeriCorps Academic Mentoring Program. Sirocus attended Valdosta State University where he earned a BA and MA. In April 2024, Sirocus defended his dissertation titled: Transforming Horizons: A Study of Educator Professional Learning Practices for Ensuring Effective Social Emotional Learning Implementation in Horizons at Georgia Tech. Sirocus earned his Doctor of Education in Learning Sciences and Policy with a focus in Out-Of-School Learning from the University of Pittsburgh.

Sirocus is the Director of Expanded Learning Programs at CEISMC which includes Horizons at Georgia Tech, Summer PEAKS, STEAM Workshops, K.I.D.S. Club, CEISMC Summer Residential Programs and STEAM Whistle Workshops (online student programs).

Prior to joining CEISMC, Sirocus worked for 10 years for the City of Valdosta and the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority. From 2006 to 2012, Sirocus served as the Programs and Events Coordinator. In this role, Sirocus lead all aspects of four divisions: Afterschool Programming, Summer Day Camps, Instructional Programming, and Community Special Events.

Sirocus is also an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
