Latino STEM Education Day at Meadowcreek High School

On Saturday October 24th, 2015, GoSTEM hosted for the 4th time the Latino STEM Education Day event at Meadowcreek High School. Students and families had the opportunity to attend a bilingual workshop, in Spanish and English, on college access and financial aid facilitated by Georgia State University. In addition, Georgia Tech’s Physics Professor, Dr. Flavio Fenton, delighted the audience with a presentation on the physics of the Frankenstein story, right before Halloween! The event also offered a variety of hands-on STEM activities and learning stations for the entire family facilitated by Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff. Some of those activities included learning about the properties of materials at different temperatures, building towers, and even seeing a demonstration on how a spark chamber works! The attendees also had an opportunity to visit an exhibitors’ area where representatives from community organizations shared information about their services, programs, and resources. The event culminated with a showcase of the Meadowcreek cluster schools’ robotics teams. It was a day full of fun and learning about college and STEM!
