About

Eunhye Grace Flavin is a Senior Research Scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC).  As a learning scientist, she leads research projects focusing on mathematics education, learning sciences, and educational technology.

Dr. Flavin's research areas are 1) design of tech-enhanced learning environments with a focus on mathematics, and 2) STEM workforce development. Her research vision is to develop technologies and learning environments that leverage intelligent systems, such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence, to enhance learning experiences and examine the new forms of cognition, and emotion that emerge in these environments. She employs multiple research methods, including human–computer interaction approaches, multimodal measurements such as eye tracking, network analysis, and ethnographic studies, to investigate her research questions.

Flavin's research was honored with multiple awards, including a 2026 Early Career Publication Award from the American Educational Research Association (SIG: Research in Mathematics Education) and as an Early Career BIPOC faculty mentee by the Association of Mathematics Teacher Education (AMTE) in 2023. Flavin’s teaching and mentoring were also recognized through the Professor of the Month Award in 2022, during her tenure as an assistant professor at Stonehill College, as well as her selection as a Senior Class Gift Mentor Honoree and nomination as a faculty mentor for the inaugural Tri-Alpha induction ceremonies in 2023 and 2024.

As a PI and co-PI, Flavin  has secured multiple grants from national and international agencies in the private and public sectors, such as the American Educational Research Association ( see article) and Avanade Tech Grant. Flavin has also established herself as an expert researcher with over 30 refereed articles published in highly regarded journals, including Nature, Journal of Teacher Education, and Urban Education

Currently at Georgia Tech, Eunhye co-leads and teaches a Mechatronics and Motivation course in the VIP program alongside an Electrical Engineering professor. Previously, she developed and taught online and in-person courses in Mathematics and Education Studies at Boston College and Stonehill College. Eunhye earned her Ph.D. from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College in 2021, specializing in Mathematics and Technology Education. Her work is accessible through her lab’s website: https://flavineducationlab.com
